MY STORY
Do you find yourself crying during the lifestyle makeovers on Queer Eye? Do you love the Home Edit, and Marie Kondo? If so, I am your girlie!!
Hi! I'm Rebecca - a designer, mom, and advocate for family-centered living. Like those referenced above, I am on a mission to transform chaotic homes into calm, beautiful, and functional spaces that nurture connection, development, and everyday joy.
My passion for design was sparked by my "family's legacy in home." My grandfather started a rug company 100 years ago and four of his five children followed in his footsteps owning their own businesses. I grew up crawling around my father's carpet and lighting store and have fond memories of traveling with him to markets buying goods and antiques.
At 17, I moved across the country to attend a prep school on the East Coast. This transition taught me that creating a grounding home environment and having a solid education where two of my core values.
When it came time for higher education, I studied art and curation earning a Master's degree. I then worked in fine art, home, and design for almost two decades gleaning all I could about creativity and well-being. I assisted top tier companies in the industry working with celebrity and billionaire clientele.
In 2021, I moved back to my home state of Kansas from California. While there I practiced design, adopted a second dog, got married, bought my first house, and started an antique business.
In 2024 after becoming a first-time mom and working from home with little postpartum support, I was determined to create a house that was beautiful and intentional. My solution? Transform the living room into our first Montessori-aligned space. Annex a section of the garage into a home gym. Beautify and baby-proof our office. Organize and declutter the kitchen. Create shade and walking paths in our backyard. Lastly, cultivate a network of fellow professionals (especially moms/entrepreneurs) who share the same core values. The results have been impressive! This life transition while challenging, led me to utilize my two decades of professional experience to launch RKI - an interior design studio focused on family wellbeing.
My overarching goal is to change the way we design our homes in order to create healthier and happier families.
I differentiate myself by weaving vintage throughout all my projects. And being a mom, family and kids spaces will always have an important emphasis.
